Devon Highways

SWH has been Devon County Council's Highway Term Maintenance Contractor since 1995 in the largest county road network in the UK. SWH has successfully tendered for and won the Devon County Council’s Term Maintenance Contract three times against stiff competition for the maintenance of the Devon Road Network, which consists of 12,500km of roads and some 3,500 bridges and structures. The contract includes routine maintenance activities, highway improvement schemes and road surfacing.

Our activities include:

  • Routine maintenance activities including winter maintenance, safety defect repairs, emergency response and soft estate management
  • Highway Improvement Schemes including carriageway and footway resurfacing, footway works and traffic management
  • Surfacing
  • Design Services for Surface Dressing: With our in-house design team, SWH provides an end-to-end service. Our dedicated team of designers work closely with our client in identifying sites suitable for dressing and the preparation of designs and estimates for the work. Early contractor involvement has ensured continual improvement in the efficiency and quality of the end product as well as greater certainty for our Client
  • Community Liaison: Customers and stakeholders are at the heart of our operations. In this latest Contract we introduced full-time dedicated Community Liaison Officers who engage with all stakeholders before, during and after works are carried out to confirm all our activities focus on their needs.
