Design & Build

Design and Build works on the basis that we, as the main contractor, are responsible for undertaking both the design and construction work on a scheme.

Initially, we are provided with our clients’ preliminary design, along with their specification and end user requirements. From this, we develop and produce a final design before undertaking construction.

The use of Design and Build contracts allows us to have an early input into the final outcome for each project. It enables us to explore different means of providing our clients with a completed scheme that best meets their end user needs.

Our approach is one of collaboration between our experts, our clients and our specialist supply chain. We pride ourselves on building a partnering environment to really get to know client needs and using our experts to ensure that those requirements are met fully.

Examples of our Civil Engineering Design and Build projects include:

  • Granite and Gears Bridge, Heathfield, Devon - Design, fabrication and installation of a 43m span steel equestrian/cycle bridge over the A38 dual carriageway, with a further 180m of steel ramps to connect to future sections of the cyclepath.
  • Plymouth City Airport Link Road - This £1.4m Design and Build project saw the construction of a new 500m Link Road and spurs, footway and shared foot and cycleway. The works also included a new signalised junction and dedicated bus gate.
