SWH Build to transform Taunton Landmark

SWH Build is pleased to announce that work is due to commence on transforming part of Taunton’s landmark Market House into a 21st century visitor centre.

The existing Tourist Information Centre (TIC) will be moving into the historic building this summer – and changing its name to become Taunton Visitor Centre.

The centre will share the venue with new restaurant Wildwood and the aim is to have the doors open, ready to welcome visitors by mid-July this year, in time for the Taunton Live festival.

The relocation from the TIC next to Taunton’s main library in Paul Street will help attract even more...

Announcement of Works for SWH Build at Westover Road, Bournemouth

SWH Build is pleased to announce that works on Westover Road, Bournemouth is due to commence at the end of September, leading into June 2015.

The programme of works will involve the reroofing of the main Premier Inn and the multi storey car park block, specialist refurbishment to the rear elevation and internal structural repairs to the multi storey car park.

SWH Build, a division of South West Highways Ltd, is in close contact with Bournemouth Borough Council to ensure the works cause minimal disruption to the surrounding area during busy periods.

Poole High School's refurb finished on time thanks to SWH Build
SWH Build is very pleased to announce the completion of Poole High School Conference Centre.

The works took place at the school from May until August, with SWH Build working to a non-negotiable deadline to coincide with the start of a new school year.

The programme of work involved the reroofing and recladding of existing porta cabin buildings, internal alterations, rock panel cladding and installing new windows and doors throughout.

SWH Build were up against the clock from the offset and other issues such as tight access and adapting to a live environment were also challenging for the team, led by Area Manager...

SWH Wins Poole High School Refurbishment

SWH’s successful Poole Office, which opened a year ago, is delighted to have been awarded a contract at Poole High School.

The Exeter-based business which employs over 600 people in the West Country has a great deal of experience in the education construction environment.

The SWH brand, which is steadily growing in the Dorset area, is going from strength to strength and being able to take on jobs such as Poole High School, will serve to cement the firm’s position locally.

SWH Build project wins Best Education Project Award at the LA Building Cermony in Taunton

A project undertaken at Wellesley Park Primary School has been awarded the Somerset LABC "Best Education Project Award"

Wellesley Park Primary School (Learning Environment) SWH Build undertook the construction of a new build single-storey building comprising three classrooms and a staff room with associated storage areas, toilets and cloakrooms.

Works also included remodelling of the existing staff room into a Therapy suite including provision for a hoist and accessible WC and shower area.

Priorswood Primary School (Learning Environment) This north Taunton school and foundation unit for children aged two to eleven years needed new catering and dining facilities.

A large new industrial kitchen was built right in the heart of the school. A brick building was designed to match the adjoining buildings.

SWH Build always offers a positive contribution and suggested all ventilation equipment be positioned on the roof to maximise floor space. The change was adopted and helped resolve the complexities of the mechanical and electrical installations.

Torre Abbey Sands, Phase 3

Between October 2009 and March 2010, SWH carried out refurbishment works to a 100m section of promenade and steps on Torquay seafront.

The works comprised the cleaning of algae from the existing concrete, scabbling all existing surfaces and installation of dowels, prior to overlaying the existing concrete with 120mm of new fibre reinforced concrete.

The works were located on the main sea front in Torquay, at a location known as Torre Abbey Sands.

The works were within the tidal zone and the various operations had to be carefully planned to make best use of the available 'dry' time. Access was only available from...
