Steve Tart joined SWH in 2001 as a road worker with some construction experience but no formal qualifications to speak of.
From day one Steve showed enormous potential and was keen to take the opportunity to develop himself.
Over the course of the last 17 years Steve has risen through the ranks of the business attaining numerous qualifications along the way. He holds a Street Works card, First Aid at Work and 12D Traffic Management qualifications. His CSCS card shows an impressive 10 Highways and Construction NVQ's, in addition to full CPCS Plant Operator's card in various catagories.

SWH has achieved the President's Award and the Fleet Safety Gold award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). This is given to companies who achieve a Gold award for 10 or more consecutive years.
Through the RoSPA Awards scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. The awards are now in its 61st year.

SWH Group has been awarded the Apprenticeship Development Award at this year’s Plymouth Herald Business Awards.
The ceremony, which took place 20 April at Plymouth Pavilions, saw more than 500 attendees gather to celebrate businesses that have helped shape the city’s success over the past year.
The awards had 17 categories and were presented by Paul Burton, Editor of The Herald and Sarah Pullen, regional managing director for The Herald's parent South West Trinity Mirror plc.

Anna Cooper (shown far right), SWH’s Project Skills Co-ordinator, has been shortlisted for Constructing Excellence South West’s ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ Award in the Image of Construction category.
Anna has worked for SWH for more than three years promoting construction related careers, training and apprenticeships to people throughout the south west. Anna has developed strong relationships with a network of schools and further education colleges during this time. SWH Build is delighted to have won several awards for a range of projects in the south west.
It has been announced that the COACH Taunton scheme, on which SWH Build was the principal contractor, has won three Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards in the categories of 'Best Public Service Building', 'Best Educational Building' and 'Best Commercial Building'. The COACH Taunton facility provides a range of outdoor activities for the community, along with a café. The building was designed to blend into its surroundings and has been used by a vast number of community groups since its opening.

SWH has donated a record £916 to Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) following its annual campaign to improve health and safety across the business.
SWH has pledged to donate £1 for every Safety, Health, Environment or Quality (SHEQ) event (otherwise known as ‘near misses’) reported by employees. SWH recognises the link between the number of SHEQ events reported and a reduction in health and safety incidents and issues monthly updates to employees and reminders to continue to report events throughout the year.

SWH Civils’ project to construct Plymouth Coach Station’s new car park has won the prestigious Devon & Cornwall Concrete Society’s ‘Civil and Structural Concrete’ award.
SWH Civils was appointed as the principal contractor under a design and build contract by Plymouth City Council to construct Plymouth’s Coach Station. A new car park facility was also required as part of the project.

South West Highways Ltd has signed a new road maintenance contract with Plymouth City Council.
SWH will take over the maintenance of Plymouth’s roads from the Council’s current contractor from April 2017, with an initial term of seven years and the opportunity to extend this by up to three years.
