SWH were so pleased to have been nominated for a Customer Satisfaction award as part of The British Quality Foundation's Achievement Awards.

To make this category, sponsored by FirstGroup UK Rail, was a fantastic achievement for us and a great night was had by all at the awards ceremony last Thursday in London.

The Achievement Awards are national annual awards that recognise exceptional achievement across the main areas of an organisation's operation.

SWH Nominated for Environmental Award
SWH has been shortlisted for a Green Goods and Services award from the Devon Environmental Business Initiative (DEBI).

Representatives from the organisation visited SWH’s HQ yesterday to see the innovative reedbed recycling facility which has reduced waste, saved costs and increased biodiversity on the site.

The judging panel will visit all four of the finalists short listed for this award over the next couple of days, from there, a winner will be chosen and then an overall winner of the Debi Award for 2014.

The Official Opening of the Crediton Link Road

Our Civils division accompanied Devon County Council Councillors at the official opening of the new Crediton link road last Wednesday.

 The scheme involved the construction of a new two lane single carriageway road. The road now goes from the roundabout at the Tesco Superstore onto the A377 and then to the junction of Commonmarsh Lane and Marsh Lane in Lords Meadow Industrial Estate. Peripheral works also took place to improve the nearby junction of Exhibition Road and Commercial Road by the construction of a mini roundabout

SWH Civils awarded Derriford Hospital Helipad Contract

SWH Civils has recently tendered for and won the contract for the construction of a helipad at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. 

This exciting project, which is due to commence at the end of October, will provide a new helicopter landing facility enabling  a wider range of aircraft to land at Derriford Hospital Emergency Unit. 

The works to be carried out by SWH Civils will enable the hospital trust to deliver an improved helicopter landing facility, benefiting Devon & Cornwall Air Ambulances it will enable them to land at night, helping the Hospital Trust continue to improve their services to the community.

Announcement of Works for SWH Build at Westover Road, Bournemouth

SWH Build is pleased to announce that works on Westover Road, Bournemouth is due to commence at the end of September, leading into June 2015.

The programme of works will involve the reroofing of the main Premier Inn and the multi storey car park block, specialist refurbishment to the rear elevation and internal structural repairs to the multi storey car park.

SWH Build, a division of South West Highways Ltd, is in close contact with Bournemouth Borough Council to ensure the works cause minimal disruption to the surrounding area during busy periods.

Poole High School's refurb finished on time thanks to SWH Build
SWH Build is very pleased to announce the completion of Poole High School Conference Centre.

The works took place at the school from May until August, with SWH Build working to a non-negotiable deadline to coincide with the start of a new school year.

The programme of work involved the reroofing and recladding of existing porta cabin buildings, internal alterations, rock panel cladding and installing new windows and doors throughout.

SWH support Southbrook School in their bid to win go kart challenge

SWH were pleased to donate £250 to Southbrook School in Exeter in a bid to support their part in a local Go Kart Challenge.

Andrew Plumber, Business Manager at SWH, visited the school alongside Project Skills Coordinator, Anna Cooper to present the cheque and to be given a guided tour of the school’s facilities by Assistant Head, Alan Tilley.

Lee Hutchinson from SWH workshops also attended the visit to assist the pupils with the building and assembling of the kart.

SWH National Skills Academy for Construction offers meaningful Work Experience Placements in Construction

South West Highways Ltd has joined forces with a local organisation (Pluss) that supports people with disabilities to achieve work by delivering meaningful work experience placements

The Challenge:

As part of SWH’s National Skills Academy for Construction Programme we have committed to providing meaningful work placements to support candidates from disadvantaged groups who are struggling to find work in the construction industry.
