SWH Build has started work building a new performing arts centre at Plympton Academy, formerly known as Ridgeway School, in Plymouth.

The new building will have two storeys to house music classrooms, practice rooms, a recording studio, drama studios and a performance space.

SWH Build will be constructing a steel frame following the completion of foundation works.

Lisa Boorman, principal at Plympton Academy, said: "The vision is for the facilities to be used in conjunction with the community. Everyone is very excited about the new performing arts centre; it's going to provide us with a fantastic space within the school."

Sheldon Roberts, SWH Build Site Manager, said: “This is another fantastic project for SWH Build and it’s great to see so much excitement around the new facility. We are specialists at working in live educational environments and are adept at dealing with the challenges this presents.”

The project started at the end of July and is due to be completed in early February 2017 at a cost of circa £2million.
