SWH Civils announced as contractor for Plymouth Coach Station

We are delighted to announce that Plymouth County Council has named SWH Civils as the preferred contractor to build a new coach station in Plymouth’s West End, following a competitive tendering process.

The works will see the existing, outdated coach station replaced with a modern facility that includes seven coach stands for National Express and Megabus routes, real-time passenger information systems, blue badge drop-off bays, customer help points, ticket machines, toilets, cycle stands, CCTV and ornamental lighting.

As well as the coach station, the contract also covers the provision of a car park with blue badge holder bays, drop-off, pick-up and taxi/private hire bays. As with the coach station, the car park will have lighting and CCTV systems to ensure the security and safety of all users.

Jerry Bricknell, Civils Manager said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the contract which will help transform the welcome Plymouth gives to passengers coming in by coach. We have considerable experience of working on complex projects and are keen to ensure that we will enjoy good relationships with our neighbours during the building process.”

Planning permission for the scheme was granted last March with final programming details being agreed in the coming weeks.

Councillor Mark Lowry, Cabinet Member for Finance and Assets and City Centre Champion, said “For a long time we’ve wanted to make the entrance to Plymouth more welcoming and more in keeping with a modern, thriving city that wants to attract many more visitors.”

SWH has recently completed several significant projects from its Plymouth office at Crownhill, including the new helipad at Derriford Hospital and a very successful project at Laira Bridge alongside the Council. The company also completed a new bridge over the A38 earlier this year and is currently undertaking highway infrastructure works at Sherford.
