SWH Civils receives ICE Nomination 2014

SWH were delighted to have our recent Sidmouth Recycling Centre Project nominated for this year’s ICE Project of the Year Awards.

The scheme was entered into the over £1M project and the Community Award categories, both of which were fiercely contested. While our scheme was not selected as the overall winner in either category, the judges were extremely complimentary and commented; ‘by its nature, as a recycling centre, this is a sustainable project. Construction in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty introduced some issues to the project in terms of landscaping and public consultation.

The improvements in the recycling centre’s designed layout is fundamental to the user’s safety and as such is a vital public service project’.   Since this project was completed in December 2013, the volume of waste material being deposited has increased in comparison to the old facility and the range of waste streams that can be accepted has been broadened. Overall recycling rates of 82% have been achieved, making this one of the highest performing facilities in the South West.
