Haldon Chalets Improvements

Haldon Chalets Improvements (Roads and Structures)

This complex multi-disciplinary scheme involved the closure of an at-grade crossing on the A380 and the construction of a new intersection, an overbridge and 1km of associated side roads.

All the works were carried out within a SSSI.

A specialist was employed on the site for three months during the construction process to provide ecological supervision relating to protected species including reptiles, badgers and breeding birds.

In addition the existing soil had to be screened to remove any large stones and chalk and re-used to form the new embankments. This approach was required, as opposed to improving material, to ensure that the chemical make up of the soil was not altered. This intern ensured that there was a minimum impact on the existing ecosystem.

Restricted night time working was required during the summer embargo period on one of the busiest high speed roads in Devon. The complexity of this scheme required careful planning to minimise disruption to the travelling public whilst maintaining access to adjacent businesses. The careful selection and management of a robust supply chain was critical to the success of this project.

Our in-house resources carried out all of the reinforced concrete wall including the 8metre high reinforced concrete abutments, together with the drainage, kerbing, accommodation works and traffic management on this high-speed road.

As a result of meticulous planning, customer focus and management of our specialist supply chain this project was completed on time and to budget and with minimal disruption to traffic flows.
